peterbaumannPeter Baumann came to prominence as a key member of Tangerine Dream, joining Edgar Froese and Chris Franke in the group in 1971 and making his debut on the album Zeit. In 1976 he embarked on a solo career with his classic work Romance ’76, a remarkable album that is now held in huge esteem by aficionados of German electronic music.
His next work as a solo artist was the equally remarkable and ground-breaking album Trans Harmonic Nights, recorded in Berlin between July 1978 and January ’79, a release which pre-empted and influenced the protagonists of synthesiser based music that would burst forth in the ’80s.

…bands from Depeche Mode to Blanc Mange. “White Bench Black Beach” recall elements of both Harmonia and yet even with such a compelling start falls somewhat flat by the end. Meanwhile, “Chasing the Dream” is pure Tangerine dream as it glides and evolves into a rotating cluster of pulsating nebula.“Meridian Moorland,” a track that seems to share the only thematic link to the album Romance ’76, is quickly served up with its dark-psychedelic, deeply unsettling sound that is perfectly pitched on the edge of sanity and would be a striking piece used to score an early morning stakeout.
